# Settings

Open **Settings** from the gear in the sidebar footer. It has six sections. This page lists every setting, what it does, and its range or default where one is known.

## General

Labeled **Updates & app**.

| Setting | What it does | Range or default |

| **Check automatically for updates** | Looks for new versions on launch and in the background. | Toggle, on by default |
| **Check for updates now** | Checks immediately and shows your current version. | Button |

## Profile

Labeled **Account & appearance**.

| Setting | What it does | Range or default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Account details | Shows your profile name and **Member since** date. A profile is local and name-only. No email, no password. | Read-only |
| Theme palette | Picks the color palette Curator uses. | Swappable |
| Appearance | The app is always dark. You can swap the palette and accent, but not switch to a light theme. | Always dark |

## Storage

Labeled **Backends & sync**.

| Setting | What it does | Range or default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Add Folder** | Connects a folder on this Mac as a storage source. | Native folder picker |
| Connect cloud storage | Connects an S3-compatible bucket. Fields are **Display name**, **Endpoint**, **Access Key**, **Secret Key**, bucket, and an **SSL** toggle. The connection is tested before it is saved. | S3-compatible |
| Sync | Re-scans a source to pick up new, renamed, modified, and deleted files. | Per source |
| Delete a source | Removes a source and the data Curator built for it. Your real files are never touched. | Per source |

## AI & Models

Labeled **Ollama & assignments**.

| Setting | What it does | Range or default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Ollama Base URL** | The address of the Ollama engine Curator talks to. | Default `http://localhost:11434` |
| Connection test | Tests the Ollama connection and shows a status badge. States are **Not tested**, **Testing**, **Connected**, and **Offline**. | Badge |
| Model assignments | Sets which model handles each task. | One model per task |
| Pull recommended models | Downloads the models Curator suggests for your Mac. | Sized to your RAM |

## Processing

Labeled **Pipeline & automation**.

| Setting | What it does | Range or default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Concurrent jobs** | How many files Curator processes at once. Higher uses more RAM. | 1 to 4 |
| **Max chunk size** | The largest piece of text Curator splits a file into for search. | 1k to 8k characters |
| **Max content size** | The most text Curator reads from a single file. | 25k to 250k characters |
| **Process on upload** | Processes files automatically when you upload them. | Toggle |
| **Process on scan** | Processes new files found during a sync. | Toggle |
| **Auto-categorize on upload** | Assigns an AI category to files as they upload. | Toggle |
| **Clear Past Jobs** | Removes finished jobs from the queue history. | Button |

## Logs

Labeled **Diagnostics & traces**.
